South African dried fruit, from the Cape valleys

The dried fruit that comes out of the Western Cape is a different product from what fills a Canadian bulk bin. It is dried whole or rolled into sheets rather than sugared and diced, and the fruit itself is the point. Safari and Montagu have been doing it in the same valleys for generations. If you grew up with a fruit roll in a lunch box, this is the taste you have been failing to find here.

Fruit rolls, cubes and lollies

Safari fruit rolls come in guava and mango, pressed into sheets and rolled, and they are the school lunch box standard. Alman's fruit cubes and sticks are the chewier version that keeps in a bag or a glove box. Montagu fruit lollies are the ones for children who think they are getting a sweet. None of them need refrigeration and all of them survive a long drive, which is what they were invented for.

A snack that is not a sweet

This is the shelf parents reach for when they want something in a lunch box that is not chocolate. It is fruit, dried, with the water taken out and not much else added, which puts it in the same family as biltong: a snack that is what it says it is. Between the two you can fill a lunch box without opening a single packet of anything engineered.

South African Snacks

Ordering across Canada

Dried fruit is light, it ships well and it keeps for months in a sealed bag, so it is the easiest thing on the site to add to an order. Most people buy it alongside the snacks and the biscuits. If you are building a parcel for someone homesick, a fruit roll does more emotional work per dollar than almost anything else we sell.

Frequently asked questions

WHAT SOUTH AFRICAN DRIED FRUIT DO YOU STOCK?

Safari guava and mango fruit rolls, Alman's fruit cubes and sticks, and Montagu fruit lollies. All brought over from the Western Cape rather than a Canadian bulk-bin substitute.

DOES SOUTH AFRICAN DRIED FRUIT NEED TO BE REFRIGERATED?

No. Fruit rolls, cubes and lollies keep for months in a sealed bag at room temperature, which is what makes them an easy add to any order or lunch box.

DO YOU SHIP DRIED FRUIT ACROSS CANADA?

Yes, everywhere in Canada. Dried fruit is light and ships easily, and most people add it to a snacks or biscuits order rather than buying it on its own.

IS SAFARI FRUIT ROLL THE SAME AS A FRUIT LEATHER?

Close, but a South African product. Safari fruit rolls are guava or mango pressed into a sheet and rolled, the same idea as a fruit leather but made in the Western Cape and not available on a Canadian shelf.
